Derby City Comic Con Harassment Policy

Derby City Comic Con is dedicated to providing a harassment-free convention experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age or religious preference (including no preference). We do not tolerate harassment of convention participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any convention venue, including talks. Convention participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the convention [without a refund] at the discretion of the conference organizers.

To clarify, harassment includes verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination [related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion or lack thereof ; sexual images in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Failure to do so can lead to expulsion from the show without refund.

The above rights are especially extended to our costumed (aka cosplayer) attendees. No harassment of any costumed individual will be tolerated in any form; be it verbal or physical. Anyone wishing to obtain a photograph of a cosplayer should ask and if the cosplayer refuses, then that is the final word. Cosplayers should not be touched without permission and should not be detained in any way if they need to move away from a crowd. Convention participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference [without a refund] at the discretion of the convention organizers. Any cosplayer who feels that they are being harassed should contact a DCCC staff member immediately.

Exhibitors in the show floor, sponsor or vendor booths, or similar activities are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment

Anyone who has questions or concerns about the policy or any of the statements therein should contact John Wilson at john@derbycitycomiccon.com!
